Kids Canoe Trip

Charlottesville Parks and Recreation has teamed up with the local chapter of the Float Fisherman of Virginia, a canoeing organization, to host its first annual Kids Float on the James River . The trip is designed to give city youth, who have never canoed before, the opportunity to float Virginia ’s largest river. We will be putting in at Scottsville making our way to the Hardware River Landing. We will meet at Carver Center . Transportation, canoes, paddles and lifejackets will be provided. Also provided is lunch, snacks and drinks. Parents and those with their own canoes are welcome to join us as well.

The Kid Float has been rescheduled for Saturday August 22, 2009.  Please contact me ASAP if you can volunteer that day.  We will be paddling from Howardsville to the Tapscott property, just past Warren's Ferry.  WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF MANY VOLUNTEERS!!!

KID FLOAT 2009 DIRECTIONS: Please arrive at the take out (Warren’s Ferry) by 8:30am to leave your vehicle here.  Shuttle vehicles will take you to the put in (Howardsville Boat Landing) at 9:00am.  There will be canoe trailers & vehicles here to take your boat/equipment to the put in.  If you do not arrive before 9:00am you must go to the put in (Howardsville Boat Landing).  Your vehicle will be left there while we float.  A vehicle will bring you back to your vehicle after the float.  I know this may be confusing for many of you, PLEASE try to make it to the take out (Warren’s Ferry) before 9:00am!!!  This will make things much easier & minimize shuttle runs after the float!!!  Questions: Contact Ginnie @  ginnieffv@peoplepc.com by Thursday 8/20/09 4:00pm or call me at 434-962-3224 (after Thursday 4:00pm).
